Health Care System of the Ozarks (VHSO) in Fayetteville is accepting the entries from Jan. 12 through Feb. 20, 2015.
TheOldManSays The artwork tells a story! For some, perhaps, an outlet for the expression of feelings that were born in their service. For some, a recognition of a talent that was fostered and enabled by their service. And for some, a way to express what cannot be expressed in any other manner. This is a good thing !
“We have hundreds of categories that our community’s talented Veterans can submit their artwork in for judging. We have had some amazing pieces come through our facility in the previous years, and we are confident 2015 will be no different. First place winners go on to compete at the national level,” said Dr. Mark Enderle, medical center director, in a statement.
The competition has 51 categories in the visual arts division ranging from oil painting to leather work and even pain-by-number kits. There are also 100 categories in the performing arts, including dance, music and creative writing.
To qualify for entry, artists must meet the following criteria:
- Participants must be an active outpatient or inpatient of the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks or a resident of a state Veterans home.
- Art must have been created after April 1, 2014.
- Participants may submit three entries per division, but only one entry per category.
Veteran artisans may contact the Voluntary Service Office at 479-444-4016 for instructions on submitting an entry.
The local competition artists’ reception, which is open to the public, will be held on Friday, March 6 at 1 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Fayetteville VA medical center.
