Veterans with active applications for VA health care have a year to furnish required information.
“The Veterans Affairs Department has figured out (Really? You mean the bureaucrats have finally motivated themselves up off their asses!?!?) how to fix a backlog of health care applications that dates back at least four years (Wow, it is only a four year old backlog – prior to 2011 everything was AOK – Yeah, right!) : Enforce a law requiring veterans to furnish the necessary paperwork, or the applications will be closed.”
They want to enforce a law in a flawed system that hasn’t worked and has created this mess: SNAFU!
Now why do you think there is a backlog? “The VA’s software system mistakenly labeled their applications as needing signatures or income information.”
“The VA inspector general (Yes, I guess the IG actually does exist and does do something!) in September found extensive problems with the VA’s health applications, including evidence that employees lost 10,000 applications and that more than 245,000 veterans on the pending list actually were deceased. Damn, (dictionary statement: condemn, especially by the public expression of disapproval ) the VA managed subtraction by addition. They reduced the numbers by just letting additional Veterans answer the final roll call and die!
TheOldMan has seen this before; I have experience with this on a first hand basis. While no actual deaths were involved, my story illustrates the problem! Years ago, while I was pursuing my benefits, called “waging war” with the VA (Yes I was and still am “waging war”), I received a VA official form letter informing me that my monthly pittance – benefit amount – was being reduced due to the fact that my 2 daughters were no longer alive! What a shock it was to my wife and my daughters when I advised them that they were no longer among the living! Countless letters and proof of life were sent by registered mail, return receipt (the only way to contact the VA and have proof of their receiving the information!) to correct the error. The issue was finally resolved and the miracle of life – finally in the paperwork of the VA – was restored to my 2 beautiful daughters, almost a year had elapsed.
“House Veterans Affairs Committee chairman Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., (He is one of the good guys, if you can have a good guy politician!) said in a statement Monday that he was glad VA is addressing the problems but was “baffled” the department took so long.
(Really Congressman Miller? Continue to hang out with a few of us old time cranky ass Vets who have been in the fray for a long time! We will dispel any doubts that you have regarding the workings of the inept bureaucracy that infects the Veterans Administration!)
“Whistleblowers have been complaining about this issue and others at the department’s Health Eligibility Center for years, and at [the committee’s] request VA’s inspector general confirmed a huge backlog of pending health care applications in September of 2015,” Miller said.”
How will the VA address this problem? How will they fix the problem? What is their solution?
TheOldMan asks that you read the article. You will be amazed at how the VA came up with the answers! The more you can understand the better off you will be when it comes time to deal with the bureaucracy! Thanks for reading !
